It's About Time

“Hey, I got your message.”

“Oh, so do you have a break?”

“I have an hour.” Dorian answered.

“Me too.”

I dialed his number twenty minutes later.

“Where are you?” I asked looking up at the street sign. I was still about two blocks away wondering if he was there already.

“Waiting inside. Where are you?”

“About two blocks away.”

“You wanna know something interesting?”

I hesitated, not expecting him to pose a question.

“Do I wanna know something interesting?”

“Yeah.”

“Sure. What?”

“I got a lot of respect for you, Denise.”

“Really?” I asked, looking down before stepping off the curb.

“You know, you’re the first woman to ask me out since...” He stumbled a bit and chuckled. “Sixth grade?”

I grinned, stared at the man who had undoubtedly been one of the most common fodders of young girls’ fantasies since he hit puberty.

“You’re kidding. No girl has asked out Mr. New Kid With Fresh Energy and Old Drive?” I said, quoting a commentator from the last game I stayed home and watched.

“Well, I mean besides launching themselves at me after stalking me for weeks and leaning on me talking about luxury hotel suites with Bacardi breath...yeah, you are.”

“I guess that is really interesting.”

“What made you do it?”

“Well, I figured if you don’t ask, the answer’s no and I really wanted to hear a yes...so I did.”

“That was sexy of you.”

I smiled, bit down on my lip, and pushed through the fancy glass doors. He was usually the one who called me and I planned on keeping that that way. When I realized that what we were launching ourselves into was going to be exclusive, I decided that I would work around his schedule, but I wanted to take a risk. Now I felt great that he liked it because I was very reluctant to go that route because I knew it was important to give him his own personal space.

“You know what I think is really sexy about you?”

I spotted him sitting alone at a table with two little boys, maybe thirteen or fourteen waiting to wrap up his phone call and get his attention.

“This I got to hear. What do you think is really sexy about me?”

“Turn around.”

More About Amber

After I graduate from Rider University with my bachelor’s degree in communication with a track in public relations and attaining a position as an intern for a notable magazine I plan on climbing all the necessary flights of stairs so that I make it to my ideal position, a fashion editor. I will not set boundaries for myself and keep my mind open to attaining an even higher position than that such as executive editor or editor-in-chief. After I land my first real job I will start paying my loans off and won’t stop until they are long gone. Somewhere in between all that I am going to use all my newfound contacts and networks to find myself an agent and become a published author of a novel. If everything goes as planned, I will soon officially become a bestselling author and smile with twinkles of my dreams in my eyes as I sign copies of my creation. I’m going to use a healthy portion of the money to launch my own charity organization and team up with some others, another portion to take my mother on a dream vacation to see a part of the outside world, and the last to fund my master’s degree education. My family comes next. By the middle of my life, according to simply numbers, I want to be a known writer, humanitarian, mother, and wife.
